CBCT in Endodontics:
What Does It Mean for You?
Sometimes a regular dental X-ray is not enough to fully understand what is happening inside or around a tooth. In those cases, a CBCT scan can provide valuable extra information. CBCT stands for Cone Beam Computed Tomography: an advanced 3D imaging technique that gives a very detailed view of your teeth, roots, and jawbone.
Why do we use a CBCT scan?
A CBCT scan helps us to:
• Detect hidden problems, such as extra root canals, small fractures,
or infections that cannot be seen on a standard X-ray.
• Assess the shape and complexity of the root canals before performing a root canal treatment.
• Make a precise diagnosis when you have persistent or unclear symptoms.
• Make your treatment safer and more predictable.
How does a CBCT scan work?
The scan itself takes only a few seconds. You sit or stand still while the device rotates around your head. The radiation dose is low and is used only when truly necessary.
Is a CBCT scan safe?
Yes. The amount of radiation is limited and in many cases comparable to, or only slightly higher than, a regular dental X-ray. We only take a CBCT scan when the benefits clearly outweigh the minimal radiation exposure.
What does this mean for your treatment?
A CBCT scan allows us to get a complete and reliable picture of your dental situation.
This helps us to:
• Reduce the risk of complications
• Determine whether a root canal treatment is the right choice
• Make your treatment as efficient and comfortable as possible
